Wexford Health has an exceptional opportunity for a Per Diem Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team of healthcare professionals at Martin Correctional Institution, Indiantown, FL.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Specialist is a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and provides clinically appropriate services under the clinical direction of a Psychologist or Psychological Services Director. The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide mental health screenings and assessments, clinical watches, treatment groups and individual sessions, as well as other clinically related activities.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.                                                           
  2. Completes mental health assessments.
  3. Provides individual and group counseling as clinically appropriate, and agreed upon by the treatment team and/or Psychological Services Director. Assists in discharge planning and referral process to appropriate resources when an inmate is discharged to the community, work release, or elsewhere within the system.
  4. Provides documentation in accordance with unit policies, procedures, and Health Service Bulletins when recommended and/or indicated.
  5. Contributes to unit development and implementation of written and/or verbally directed clinical procedures.
  6. Participates in mandatory as well as elective educational activities as well as orientation of new staff, and inmate orientation.
  7. Attends weekly staff meetings and follows all team/unit protocols.
  8. Adheres to universal precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
  9. Adheres to safety and security policies, and participates in disaster drills.
  10. Follows security regulations and policies, with consideration of clinical factors.
  11. Provides documentation in accordance with unit policies and procedures.
  12. Receives individual and group supervision by a licensed Psychologist.
  13. Completes case management responsibilities as required.
  14. Completes Biopsychosocial Assessments, treatment plans, mental health reports and summaries, and attends weekly multi-disciplinary treatment planning meetings as scheduled.
  15. Completes chart reviews as required.
  16. Engages in internal audit preparation and review process as directed by the Associate Clinical Director and Clinical Director.
  17. Appropriately recommends/offers input to multi-disciplinary team for transfers to alternate levels of care, and/or grade changes when requested.
  18. Participates in all mental health watches and log entries as directed.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff and health care personnel.  Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.


 

TRAVEL: Minimal required

LICENSING: Licensed or licensed-eligible in the State of Florida in accordance with guidelines of the Chapter 490 and 491 Boards. Mental Health Counselor or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year prior clinical experience working with the forensics client; have familiarity with relevant research literature, clinical assessments, procedures and methods; have ability to assess treatment goals and write goal-directed, individualized treatment plans; have ability to monitor and document individual behavior patterns and modify treatment plans; and be familiar with diagnostic nomenclature outlined in the most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
