Wexford Health has an exceptional opportunity for a Temporary, Part Time Dental Hygienist to join our team of healthcare professionals at Hardee Correctional Institution in Bowling Green, FL.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Dentist, a Dental Hygienist performs technical and advisory services in oral and dental hygiene involving oral prophylaxis.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Sets up clinic as assigned by supervisor.
  2. Scaling and cleaning of teeth as prescribed by Dentist.
  3. Assist Dentist in administering fluoride treatments
  4. Assist Dentist in completing x-rays
  5. Accurately record services in the patient’s medical record and classify dental conditions utilizing APHA standards.
  6. Screen for dental emergencies and sick call.
  7. Check and maintain instruments, equipment and supplies including ordering replacements and submitting work orders.
  8. Complete oral prophylactic care including set up of instruments, equipment and supplies.
  9. Ensure proper cleanup, packaging and sterilizing of instruments.
  10. Maintain a clean and orderly working environment
  11. Develop oral hygiene education program for patients.
  12. Participate in in-service education
  13. Instructs patients about oral hygiene and proper care of teeth.
  14. Maintains cleanliness and sterile conditions of dental unit.
  15. Assist Dentist at clinic sessions.
  16. Ensures continuity of care.
  17. Make appropriate entries on patient’s dental chart.
  18. Supplies data for clinic reports.
  19. Responsible for dental office security to include instrument counts.  Maintains constant alertness to conditions which might endanger the security of the institution. 
  20. Maintains confidentiality of inmate records.
  21. Accepts constructive criticism in stressful situations.
  22. Makes suggestions for improving work conditions to the Regional Dental Director.
  23. Conforms to Wexford Health and facility regulations as appropriate, to include, but not be limited to:
  • Dress Code
  • Schedule/time sheet
  • Safety and security regulations
  • Procedure for PTO and education seminars

The duties and responsibilities outlined herein are for payroll purposes only; employees may be assigned other duties as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Dental clinic setting within the correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff, and health care personnel.  Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.


 

TRAVEL: None

LICENSING: Dental Hygienist license in the state of Florida

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification

EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited Dental Hygienist program

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience working in a dental setting and/or correctional health care preferred.
