The Mental Health Clerk is responsible for providing secretarial and organizational support to the facility behavioral health staff members.
Responsible to Health Service Administrator and Correctional System behavioral health authorities
Workers supervised or directed - None
1. Answer telephone and respond to telephone inquiries in a prompt/professional manner.
2. Prepare outgoing correspondences as requested.
3. Assist with data entry as needed including spreadsheet and database applications.
4. Maintains mental health clinic logs and ensures that appointments are scheduled according to IDOC protocols.
5. Create files, assists in filing, copying and helps maintain files.
6. Complete work orders as requested by staff members.
7. Assist with typing and word processing for the department.
8. Process prospective employees.
9. Maintain personnel files.
10. Assist with Quality Improvement.
11. Cross train to assist other department members.
12. Type and distribute minutes as assigned.
13. Data entry for payroll. Ensure that all data information is complete, accurate, and entered into payroll in a timely manner.

This position may require rotating assignments operating on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week schedule where employee is subject to both voluntary and mandatory overtime.
Employee may be exposed to a challenging environment, which may include exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens, verbal and physical assault, and loud noises.
Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff, and health care personnel.
Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.
Two (2) years experience in an office environment; have knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, knowledge of basic record keeping procedures and ability to extract and organize information; ability to operate standard office equipment, and have good interpersonal, organizational, communication and time-management skills.
