POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Mental Health Director will ensure that all mental health services within the State are provided in accordance with the Indiana Department of Corrections Policies and Procedures, ACA standards, contract requirements and Wexford’s Policy and Procedures. The Director will function as a multidisciplinary regional team leader, directing and supervising program psychologists, providing clinical direction and ensuring that all mental health services are provided in accordance with the highest ethical standards and quality of care. The Director will ensure that sites are appropriately staffed and staff is highly skilled, competent and well trained.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsible for provision of mental health services, mental health staff, programing coordination and all contract requirements within the region.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of all mental health related IDOC policies and procedures, ACA Standards and Wexford Health Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible as a resource for consultation to psychologists and other mental health and substance abuse staff.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and in diagnostic conferences as appropriate.                                                        
  • Provides documentation and reports in accordance with policies, procedures, and IDOC policies, both routine reports and when required and/or indicated. Ensures that all reports are completed in a timely fashion and are accurate and completed according to policy.
  • Contributes to system development and implementation of written and\or verbally directed clinical procedures.
  • Participates in mandatory as well as elective educational activities and training.
  • Attends and facilitates as appropriate, staff meetings and ensures adherence to all clinical protocols.
  • Ensures that all re-entry protocols are followed and that staff are trained and competent in the re-entry procedures.
  • Ensures that clinical services and inmates mental health needs are coordinated between regions and providers.
  • Responsible for ensuring mental health staffs conduct is in accordance with all applicable standards of quality care and standards.
  • Oversees, in conjunction with Wexford Health personnel department, personnel actions including hiring of staff and staff discipline.
  • Adheres to universal precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
  • Adheres to safety and security policies, and participates in disaster drills.
  • Follows security regulations and policies, with consideration of clinical factors.
  • Is responsible for team adherence to Case Management responsibilities as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring high standards of clinical care as evidenced by team completion of: biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, mental health reports and summaries and other duties.
  • Directs completion of peer reviews and chart reviews as required.
  • Engages in internal audit preparation and review process.
  • Appropriately recommends/offers input to multi-disciplinary team for transfers to                    alternate levels of care, and/or grade changes when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Licensing:

Licensed in the State of Indiana as a Psychologist

Certification:

CPR

 

Certification as a Health Services Provider in Psychology (HSPP) endorsement or eligibility to deliver clinical mental health services under supervision until license and HSPP endorsement is gained is required.

Experience:

Will have attended an American Psychological Association (APA) approved graduate training program and Internship which provided the appropriate foundation in assessment, intervention and consultation. Prior experience in correctional behavioral health and at least 5 years supervisory/leadership experience are required.

Education:

Doctoral level degree in Psychology.
