POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Technician/Pharmacy Technician will assist other medical staff with daily operations of the clinic, infirmary, and lab.

JOB RELATIONS

REPORTS TO:

Clinical supervision provided by the Director of Nursing and administrative supervision provided by the Health Services Administrator (HSA)

SUPERVISES:

None exercised in this position

INTER-RELATES WITH:

All health care unit staff, patients, site administration staff, security staff, clinical providers, and regional team members as required

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Monitor vital signs of infirmary patients.
  2. Implement orders for diagnostic lab tests according to company policies and procedures.
  3. Maintain inventory supplies
  4. Assist the infirmary nurse as needed in the infirmary area within the scope of practice.
  5. Document in SOAPE format, all health-related encounters for patients.
  6. Record twelve (12) lead EKGs as directed by nurse.
  7. Assist physician with minor procedures.
  8. Maintain and clean infirmary/equipment on a daily basis as needed.
  9. Work in conjunction with the clinic nurse to maintain daily duties required to run the clinic in an organized fashion.
  10. Assist with maintaining the infirmary logs.
  11. Obtains specimens as directed by nursing personnel and in accordance with policies and procedures within the scope of practice.
  12. Utilize infection control techniques in a consistent manner.
  13. Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings.
  14. Collect data for Quality Improvement programs as assigned.

 

Upon receiving the necessary training and/or instruction, performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Essential duties are routinely performed in a general office and clinical environment.  Duties may require work in at a station/desk and entail paperwork, use of computers, fax machines, copiers, and other business machines and medical equipment.  Essential duties may require the following physical demands: may be required to lift and/or move persons, carts, emergency equipment or other objects; vision to read printed materials and computer screen; walking; reaching; carrying; stooping; bending; squatting; balancing; prolonged sitting; handling (hand movement); hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; intellectual skills including short and long term memory, abstract reasoning, and decision making.

 

Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility for extended periods of time; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; must be able to clearly communicate orally and via written and typed correspondence and notes using various forms, records, charts, and electronic media.

 

This position may require rotating assignments, operating on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week schedule where employee is subject to working non-traditional hours and both voluntary and mandatory overtime on occasion as needed.

 

Employee may be exposed to a challenging environment, which may include exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens, and loud noises.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Office

  • Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which included daily interfacing with inmates/patients, correctional staff, and health care personnel.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education

Completion of a nursing assistant program from a vocational, technical, or career school.

 

experience

Prefer three (3) years experience in a health care setting to include medical-surgical experience

 

Certification

Current CPR Certification

 

Licensing

None

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and performs nursing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a set work schedule and report to work on a timely basis

  • Must be able assist staff with various policies, administrative and organizational projects. “team-player” as this position requires daily coordination with other coworkers.
