POSITION SUMMARY The Medical Director is responsible for overseeing all clinical activity including planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive and complex program of medical services within the
correctional institutions. Work involves formulation of medical policies, procedures and standards, and assisting the facilities’ medical and administrative staff in integrating medical services into the overall treatment philosophies and practices. Collaborates with the Director, Jail Operations to assist in
development and monitoring of Site Quality Process improvement plans to improve quality outcomes.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as the director of a complex and comprehensive facility medical program; oversees the daily operations.
2. Collaborates with the Health Services Administrator; Wexford’s Regional Medical Director; and Wexford’s Manager of Jail Operations in administering healthcare policies and clinical guidelines.
3. Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates the work of medical staff consisting of professional and paraprofessional medical staff.
4. Coordinates the work of medical service personnel with other programs; confers with other treatment personnel to evaluate care and treatment programs.
5. Develops, implements and evaluates medical policies, procedures and standards of care; evaluates existing policies, procedures and practice and directs changes in medical practices to meet acceptable standards of medical care as defined by accreditation and certification agencies.
6. Directs the development, implementation and evaluation of a medical education, orientation and inservice program for all levels of medical staff; coordinate a student training program with affiliated schools or universities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING: Current, unrestricted Nebraska medical licensure; current Nebraska Controlled Substance license and DEA required.
CERTIFICATION: Board certification unless client exemption allowed; CPR certification; CCHP certification preferred
EDUCATION: Medical degree required
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of professional medical experience including at least three (3) years of professional supervisory or administrative experience, preferred. Correctional experience preferred.
