POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible and accountable for assisting in structuring, comprehensive planning, and implementing the Nursing services program that guides the delivery of a quality health care program. Also responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as needed. Directs and guides patient teaching activities and ancillary personnel, while maintaining standards of professional nursing
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists in planning, priority setting and developing policies and procedures for health care activities that are in compliance with contractual requirements, Douglas County and national standards.
2. Coordinates and monitors orientation, in-services and continuing education within Nursing Services. Responsible for coordinating and providing clinical orientation and nursing in-service training.
3. Assists in the development, provision and evaluation of patient care according to the standards of quality care.
4. Conducts recruitment/retention efforts for Nursing Services.
5. Participates in the development and administration of a budget for Nursing Services.
6. Participates in Nursing Services committees (e.g., Utilization Review, Quality Assurance, Infection Control, etc.) to develop and implement procedures, audits and nursing in-services.
7. Receives and reviews daily outpatient and infirmary reports
8. Conducts regular meetings with nursing staff and ensure the practice of nursing is consistent with current standards.
9. Is on call for nursing emergencies or nursing staff needs.
10. Helps develop and maintain staff schedule for Nursing Service in accordance with contract terms of nursing coverage. Responsible for making changes in time schedules, and granting special requests for time off, if applicable.
11. Serves as representative for, and/or liaison between, nursing services and other health care providers, as well as HSA, and coordinate patient care with other departments.
12. Provides guidance to the nursing staff in patient care problems and following established protocols, and delegates responsibility within the scope of the employee’s abilities
13. Supports and participates in evaluation designed to improve work conditions and patient care. Evaluates employees’ performance to ensure and maintain quality care.
14. Keeps abreast of and follow through on incidents occurring on all shifts.
15. Reviews discrepancies in sharps and tool counts, investigates, reconciles and forwards written findings to the Health Services Administrator.
16. Reviews medication errors and forwards written findings to the Health Services Administrator.
17. Prepares and submits monthly reports to the HSA.
18. Assists in responding to applicable grievances.
19. Assesses established policies and reviews policies as needed.
20. Submits monthly report of audits.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING: Current, unrestricted Nebraska Registered Nurse License
CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Associate’s Degree required; Bachelors’ Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one to two (1-2) years of clinical, supervisory experience; correctional nursing experience a plus
