SCHEDULE: Full-Time 32 Hours Per Week

Under the direct supervision of the collaborating physician, the NP/PA shall provide a broad range of services to the facility including assessment, identification and treatment of medical concerns, health education to patients, and illness and injury prevention.
1. Performs paraprofessional medical services to the inmate/patient population as appropriate.
2. Maintains an effective professional relationship and Collaborative Agreement with Medical Director or other designated physician including being open to education, guidance, and coaching from physician to facilitate appropriate and efficient medical care of inmate/patients.
3. Directs other less qualified health care employees in the delivery of care.
4. Performs duties of an advanced technical nature.
5. Assigns, supervises, directs and trains other health care personnel in their duties concerning patient care, personal hygiene, sanitation, etc.
6. Assists in supervising the serving and proportions of special diets.
7. Ensures proper medical practices are observed.
8. Examines for, recognizes, and interprets symptoms of patient conditions.
9. Participates in and assists in remedial measures and technical decisions based on sound medical practice and knowledge.
10. Orders medications for inmates as required or with approval of physician or dentist.
11. Ensures appropriate supplies necessary for performance of duties are available.
12. Prepares patients for and perform or assist in special treatments, procedures and examinations.
13. Makes infirmary rounds, cell house rounds and staff the screening areas as requested.
14. Performs historical and physical examinations.
15. Assists or performs, with supervision, minor surgical procedures.
16. Enforces written policies and procedures of Wexford, the Health Care Unit and the facility.
17. Utilizes the SOAP charting format to document pertinent inmate information in chronological order in the health record and maintains POMR format.
18. Orders appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures to effectively diagnose and treat the patient/inmate’s health condition.
19. Draws blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable procedures when personnel that customarily perform these procedures are not available.
20. Initiates referrals to other members of the health care team, monitors the schedule of inmate/patients for special tests.
21. Counsels inmate/patients on preventative care, medical problems, and use of prescribed treatment.
22. Performs routine wound care, minor debridement, and dressing changes.
23. Generally assesses inmate/patient’s medical status and assist the assigned physician with inmate/patient management as required.
24. Utilizes appropriate infection control techniques.
25. Establishes individualized treatment plans and ensure the continuity of care for inmate/patients requiring on-going health care services.
26. Maintains the confidentiality of inmate records.
27. Makes suggestions for improving work conditions to the Medical Director and Health Services Administrator.
28. Assists with the orientation of new employees as requested or assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
2 years-experience as a NP/PA; prior experience with use of electronic medical record system; correctional healthcare experience preferred
