DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supports, and provides direction for, the psychiatric and behavioral health care delivery system and coordinates with the other functions within the institution.
  2. Participates in the clinical Mental Health Treatment Team meetings as available and assures attendance of other Psychiatrists/CRNPs within the complex/facility at the Mental Health Treatment Team meetings.
  3. Establishing and monitoring compliance with facility Mental Health procedures that assure a cohesive team approach to the provision of Mental Health Services in every facility.
  4. Monitors and ensures the appropriate utilization of psychotropic medications.
  5. Ensures that there exists a procedure for a monthly (minimum) meeting of all Mental Health staff assigned to provide services in the mental health programs.
  6. Ensures that Mental Health services and status decisions Mental Health scores, and treatment planning are done in accordance with current policy.
  7. Development of programs and services and establishment of facility protocols for the delivery of required services to address the identified needs in keeping with ADOC direction.
  8. Reviews situations involving the delivery of Mental Health Services to specific inmates that have not been satisfactorily resolved at a lower level and/or require a higher level of care than is locally available.
  9. Provides administrative direction to Mental Health Services, including tele-health, and assuring compliance with completion of job responsibilities for all staff members.
  10. Responds to recommendations, directives, and requests from the ADOC, as they relate to Mental Health Services and issues.
  11. Assures compliance with ADOC data collection and assessment policies and generation of the monthly mental health services reports.
  12. Ensures compliance with ACA/CMA standards and State and correctional system regulations policies and procedures. Upon site visits, meets with Health Service Administrator and facility Warden to assure open communication.
  13. Develops regional operational plans and policies.
  14. Monitors the activities of the behavioral health staff.  Provides direction and monitors staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures via Psychiatrists/CRNPs, under the direct supervision of the HSA.
  15. Interviews Psychiatrists and CRNPs, and other personnel as needed.
  16. Meets regularly with the site mental health staff to ensure appropriate provision of services.
  17. Coordinates training for behavioral health and institutional staff on mental health issues as requested.
  18. Provides consultation services to institutional staff for mental health issues as requested.
  19. Assures that all parole evaluations are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  20. Develops and maintains a system to provide 24-hour mental health consultation services to institutional staff in situations requiring immediate crisis intervention.
  21. Attends mandatory and optional in-service training.
  22. Participates in and conducts in-service programs; assists in orientation of new staff.
  23. Maintains open lines of communication via attendance at staff meeting when possible.
  24. Provides direct assistance to the Health Services Administrator in administration, planning, management and delivery of behavioral health services at the facility level.
  25. Contributes to behavioral health program development and evaluation.

Work Environment: Regional office setting with regular exposure to correctional facility environments.

Licensing: Must have a current MD/DO license
