Under general direction of the Statewide Internal Audit Manager, the Internal Auditor/Healthcare Analyst collects, organizes and tabulates information on healthcare services delivered on the healthcare unit. Prepares narratives and statistical reports accurately and submits the same to appropriate supervisory staff in accordance with stated deadlines. Interacts with clinical and non-clinical staff and personnel in order to gather needed information.


Assists site in systems development to track and collect all needed data on a monthly basis.  Recommends improvements to systems as needed.

  1. Collects, organizes and tabulates healthcare services data collected for evaluation.
  2. Analyzes collected data and prepares narrative and statistical report.
  3. Submits accurate narrative and statistical reports in a timely manner.
  4. Schedules meetings and appointments and notify those attending.
  5. Participates in evaluation and operational improvement meetings to ensure an on-going evaluation process for the healthcare unit.
  6. Prepares and delivers needed/assigned reports orally and in writing in a timely manner.
  7. Recommends improvements to auditing systems/policies.
  8. Participates in the development and delivery of auditing in-services for site staff.
  9. Makes regular and frequent site visits to observe, monitor and audit.
  10. Performs chart reviews utilizing EPHR and paper medical records.
  11. Performs other clerical and administrative duties as needed.
  12. Classifies and files all created documents to be maintained in the central office. Create a uniformed filing system to ensure all necessary documents are kept in an organized manner.
  13. Protects confidentiality of information in written and verbal communications and maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  14. Participates in in-service education.
  15. Tracks completion of all Corrective Action Plans.
  16. Tracks deficiencies of each site.
  17. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the healthcare unit.

The duties and responsibilities outlined herein are for payroll purposes and are not all-inclusive; employees may be assigned other duties as required.


Will work in a standard office setting. Site visits in medical setting in a correctional facility, which includes daily interfacing with inmates, correctional staff, and healthcare personnel. Temperature extremes may be encountered while moving throughout the facility outdoors and indoors in buildings without air conditioning.


Frequent travel to the correctional facilities throughout the Baltimore Region (BCBIC, JI, Juvenile Facility, CDF, MRDCC). May also include other travel in the State of Maryland.


The following requirements list the minimum to qualify.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

LICENSING: Current unrestricted Maryland RN license preferred.

CERTIFICATION: CQI certification a plus. CCHP (or willingness to obtain) preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum one (1) year analytical experience in a medical setting or health-related organization required. Previous experience in utilization management or quality management preferred. Correctional experience a plus.

  • Must be a highly organized and detail oriented individual who is capable of performing under a variety of requirements and deadlines with minimal supervision.
